Cricket aims to inspire the next generation to choose cricket - and Hampshire Hawks players have been out and about doing just that.
Over two sun-drenched evenings at Alton and New Milton Cricket Clubs, more than 200 juniors, coaches and parents gathered for unforgettable experiences with some of Hampshire’s finest.
Naomi Dattani, Ava Lee, Rhi Southby, Poppy Tulloch, Toby Albert, Eddie Jack, Joe Weatherley and Brad Wheal were on hand to deliver pro tips, share stories, and inspire club juniors. These visits were a reward for clubs selected through Hampshire Cricket Board’s random affiliation draw - an initiative helping to strengthen ties between grassroots cricket and the professional game.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there.
Next month, lucky young players from Burridge, Hartley Wintney, Portsmouth and Southsea, and St Cross Symondians Cricket Clubs will head to a Southern Brave open training session. There, they’ll have the opportunity to be up close with the stars and showcase their skills on the hallowed turf of the Utilita Bowl.
This growing connection with the professional game was a key desire expressed by clubs in the recent review of the Hampshire Cricket Board’s club affiliation offer.
"New Milton Cricket Club’s junior squads enjoyed the inspiring evening training session with the four Hampshire Hawks players as they joined practice stations alongside our NMCC Hawks, Falcons, Sparrows, and U17 teams. With over 80 juniors participating, the event mixed expert coaching, lively drills, and a BBQ. All of the NMCC players thoroughly enjoyed the evening and have been talking about all the advice that they were given by the Hampshire players. The coaching staff at NMCC would like to thank HCB for the opportunity which for most players will be a once in a lifetime chance."
