Hampshire Cricket is committed to ensuring everyone participating or working in cricket have a safe and positive experience. Everyone's welfare comes before all.

How do we do this?

  • Putting things in place
  • Having the right people in place
  • Taking all concerns seriously and acting accordingly
  • Following cricket specific guidance

We Adopt and implement the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) “Safe Hands” – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children.

We recognise everyone participating or working in cricket (regardless of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, ability or disability) have the right to be protected from harm in a safe environment.

We ensure individuals working within cricket at, or for, our club provide a welcoming, safe, and fun experience for children. We emphasise that the “Safe Hands” policy must be followed by all those involved with Hampshire Cricket and employ the philosophy that safeguarding is everyone’s business.

We provide an environment where the views of children, parents and volunteers are welcomed on a range of issues. This will help us create an environment where people have the opportunity to voice any concerns (about possible suspected child abuse/neglect, and/or about poor practice) to the Safeguarding and Welfare Officer.

We ensure all individuals working within cricket at, or for, the club are recruited and appointed in accordance with ECB guidelines and relevant legislation.

The following roles in cricket that require a DBS check vetted by ECB are:

  • Welfare Officer (Club, League, County)
  • Volunteer Co-Ordinator
  • Coach (Volunteer Or Paid, Assistant Or Lead)
  • Umpire
  • Colt/Junior Manager
  • Age Group Manager
  • Open-Age Team Captain
  • Junior Supervisor
  • First Aider / Physiotherapist / Medical Support

We have an appointed Safeguarding and Welfare Officer and ensure they attend training modules required by the ECB.
