Hampshire Second XI fell narrowly short, despite half centuries from Brad Taylor (69) and Josh Finnie (53), as the Army snatched victory off the final ball in the one-off T20 friendly at Aldershot.
Despite losing a wicket with the very first delivery of the match, Hampshire fought well thanks to aggressive knocks from both Taylor and Finnie, who shared a valuable 132-run partnership, to see the visitors post 169-5 in their 20 overs.
In reply, the loss of early wickets, this time for the hosts, meant the Army began on the back-foot with Hampshire restricting them well in the opening overs as they reached 40-2 with seven overs gone.
However, excellent unbeaten knocks from Brannon Varley (72*) and Ian Dixon (55*) led the home-side to an eight-wicket victory, with the winnings runs coming off the final delivery of the game.
