An incredible innings from Joe Weatherley (150) saw Hampshire Second XI earn a crushing victory over Glamorgan Second XI in their three-day fixture at the Utilita Bowl.

A polished all-round bowling performance had initially seen Glamorgan dismissed cheaply in their first-innings, before Weatherley, with good support from Sean Terry (97), Brad Taylor (54*) and Lewis McManus (51), saw Hampshire build a commanding lead.

The visitors then struggled with the bat once again second time around as Brad Wheal (4-31) and Weatherley (3-26) took seven wickets between them to condemn Glamorgan to defeat by an innings and 172 runs.

Wheal and James Tomlinson (3-26) saw Hampshire off to an excellent start with a wicket each inside the opening overs as Glamorgan fell to 7-2. A small recovery ensued however with no batsman able to reach fifty, the visitors found themselves dismissed for just 152 on the opening day.

Hampshire set about surpassing the away-sides total and they managed to do so comfortably and in good time as openers Terry and Weatherley saw their side past Glamorgan’s total without loss and in less than 40 overs.

The duo saw the total to 163 before Terry fell just short of what would have been a deserved hundred, however another superb partnership then formed with Weatherley and McManus sharing a 138-run stand. Although Weatherley departed shortly before 350 was brought up, McManus and Taylor extended Hampshire’s lead to more than 300 before the hosts declared.

With 315 runs needed just to make the home-side bat again, Glamorgan struggled once again as the destructive Wheal claimed the first three wickets in his first four overs to reduce them to 21-3.

Weatherley and new signing Ryan Stevenson (1-10) then picked up crucial scalps as the wickets continued to tumble - Taylor (2-33) also adding to his match-tally to see Hampshire cruise to a dominant win.
