An outstanding unbeaten century from Ben Duggan (116*) steered Hampshire Academy to an emphatic seven-wicket victory over Sarisbury in the Southern Electric Premier League fixture at the Utilita Bowl.

Duggan’s superb contribution came in reply to an initially competitive total of 249, after Mason Crane (4-59) played a large role in restricting the visitors with the ball, despite half-centuries for David Banks (61) and Hampshire's Basil Akram (63).

Hampshire will have been pleased to keep Sarisbury under 250 before Duggan and Jake Goodwin (96) put together a 177-run partnership to guide Hampshire to a convincing win.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sarisbury struggled to begin as early wickets reduced the away side to 15-2 with nine overs gone.

Banks and Akram led the fightback with both reaching fifties and they seemed to have guided their side to reasonable safety at 109-3 before five wickets for less just 93 runs, thanks largely in part to Crane, meant Hampshire assumed control again.

A quick-fire innings from M Miller (29) saw the away-side reach 249 before Crane picked up the final wicket of the innings to see the opposition dismissed.

In reply, Hampshire overcame the early loss of skipper Joe Weatherley (9) as fellow opener Duggan and Goodwin came together early to build the early foundations of the chasing effort.

Both batsman reached their half-centuries with relative ease and as the required total gradually reduced, Sarisbury began to run out of ideas.

Goodwin was the man to eventually depart, the right-hander unfortunate to miss out on what would have been a deserved century, by just four runs.

However Duggan continued to advance his total with some glorious strokes seeing him to a magnificent hundred, and steering Hampshire Academy to yet another valuable win.
