A half-century for Ben Duggan (59) and a brilliant all-round performance from Jake Goodwin (48* and 3-26) helped Hampshire Academy pick up a convincing seven-wicket victory over Ventnor in the Southern Electric Premier League at the Utilita Bowl (Nursery).
Goodwin had played a pivotal role with the ball, as he alongside Josh McCoy (3-31), helped dismiss the visitors for just 154 inside 45 overs, before the former along with Duggan saw Hampshire home with more than half of their innings to spare.
After electing to bat first, the visitors found Sean Willis (63) was the only bright spark in their batting effort with regular wickets from McCoy and Goodwin ensuring Ventnor never really gained any momentum in their innings.
The away-side needed early wickets to produce any kind of pressure but with the hosts reaching 60-1 from the opening 15 overs, victory seemed particularly unlikely.
Ventnor continued to plug away but despite two wickets falling, Duggan and Goodwin guided their side to an authoritative home win without further loss.
