Chasing an unlikely target on 392 runs on the final day, Hants openers Jimmy Adams (10*) and Liam Dawson (19*) comfortable saw out the only overs possible in the afternoon session.

The whole of the morning and evening sessions were lost due to rain.

Hampshire will take a hard-fought 10 points from the match whilst Nottinghamshire will return to Trent Bridge with 11 points.

Brendan Taylor (103) hit an impressive century to put Hampshire under pressure going into the final day of the LV= County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at the Utilita Bowl.

A stubborn lower-order batting display from Sean Ervine (31) and Andre Adams (31) had helped the hosts reach two valuable bonus points as Hants reached 276 all-out in their first innings.

However, it was brilliant performance from Taylor, who was well-supported by Alex Hales (94) in reply as Nottinghamshire reached 296-4 at stumps, an imposing lead of 391 runs.

Two early dismissals for Hants saw Ervine, Adams and Danny Briggs (18) provided the best part of the day for the home side. The trio frustrated the Notts seamers with their positive strokeplay to propel Hants from 197-7 to 276 all-out in the afternoon session.

Despite an early wicket for Gareth Berg to dismiss Steven Mullaney (23) – his fourth of the match – Taylor and Hales played impressively throughout to put Hampshire on the back foot.

Hales, who was today included alongside James Vince in the latest England one-day squad, looked at his explosive best at time as he hit 9 fours for his knock of 94.

It was Liam Dawson’s credit, who continued to plug away, that he managed to dismiss both Taylor and Hales in quick succession.

However, James Taylor (53*) did start where they left off to leave Notts in a strong position with an overnight declaration likely.
