Day One
Play was abandoned on the first day of the 2024 Vitality County Championship opener between Hampshire and Durham.
Overnight rain left the Seat Unique Riverside unplayable, despite bright skies, with the bowlers’ run-ups the main concern when the umpires called off play following a 12.30pm inspection.
Day Two
April showers once again halted Durham and Hampshire's start to the Vitality Blast County Championship, as overnight rain made the outfield unplayable for a second consecutive day.
After an eight year wait for Division One cricket at the Riverside, the home faithful have been made to wait by the weather gods for yet another day.
Both teams have been tipped as potential title contenders and will no doubt be frustrated by the delay to the season's curtain raiser.
Hampshire finished third last season, with their win tally matching champions Surrey.
Day Three
Durham and Hampshire will have a growing sense of deja vu as they have to wait for yet another day to start their Vitality County Championship season as play was abandoned for a third consecutive day.
Consistent overnight downpours have made the outfield unplayable and play was abandoned before the scheduled start time of 11:00.
The seemingly never-ending wait for Division One cricket to return to the Seat Unique Riverside continues, much to the frustration of both sides, who have big ambitions for the season.
Both sides will return for day four tomorrow, and with a result out of the question, if the outfield is deemed playable tomorrow, the focus for Durham and Hampshire will firmly be on bonus points, which could be pivotal at the end of the season.
Day Four
Durham and Hampshire have had to settle for a draw in their Vitality County Championship opener without a ball being bowled across all four days.
On day four there seemed to be a possibility of play, but captains Scott Borthwick and James Vince shook hands after an inspection at 12:00.
The recent downpours at the Seat Unique Riverside have come after a winter where there’s been little respite for ground staff up and down the country due to consistent rainfall.
Both sides will be looking to kickstart their seasons in round two when Durham travel to Edgbaston where they will go toe-to-toe with club record wicket taker Chris Rushworth when they face Warwickshire, while Hampshire welcome Lancashire to Utilita Bowl.
