Hampshire were made to wait to confirm a home semi-final in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup women’s competition after their clash with Somerset was washed out.

Heavy bursts of rain throughout the day made any prospect of play unlikely and after a 14:00 BST inspection the umpires Dean Daniels and Ben Peverall called off the match.

Both teams claim two points from the abandonment.

Hampshire’s hopes of playing at Utilita Bowl for the semi-final will be confirmed if they beat Lancashire on Saturday, or if Lancashire don’t beat Warwickshire in the ongoing fixture.

As it stands, Somerset can still reach the knockout stage if they win their last group game against Warwickshire at the weekend.

Although they need Surrey to lose to Essex today then share the points with Durham in their meeting at the Banks Homes Riverside on Saturday.
