2003
In the inaugural T20 Cup, Hampshire Hawks faced Sussex Sharks in the format’s first ever match at the then Rose Bowl. Although they emerged victorious from the first ever T20 played, the Hawks struggled to gain any momentum throughout the rest of the competition. In T20’s first-ever season the Hawks sported a striking black playing kit, which was supplied by Chase Cricket.
2004
The following year saw the Hawks make a significant improvement in the T20 format, finishing second in the South Division. However, a quarter-final defeat at the hands of Lancashire saw them fall just short of what would have been a first Finals Day appearance.
This year marked the introduction of the yellow and blue strip that is now synonymous with the Hawks brand. It was the first kit provided by Fearnley.
2005
A fourth place South Division finish wasn’t enough in 2005 as Hampshire Hawks narrowly missed out on a quarter-final spot. The Hawks’ 05 playing kit remained the same as that worn during the 2004 campaign.
2006
Hampshire Hawks struggled again in 2006’s group stages, winning just three of their eight league-phase games. Fearnley released a new kit for the season, though, with dark blue becoming the primary colour.
2007
2007 also saw the Hawks struggle in the group stages of the competition, as a quarter-final berth alluded them for a third-straight summer. Fearnley’s kit from the 2006 season was carried over for 2007.
2008
The Hawks just missed out on qualification for the quarter-finals in 2008, finishing just a point behind eventual runners-up Kent Spitfires in the South Division’s last qualification spot. Canterbury took over as the kit supplier in 2008, the new kit partnership debuting with a dark blue kit.
2009
In 2009, the Hawks progressed to the quarter-finals of the T20 competition courtesy of a third-place finish in the South Group. The Hawks wore a Canterbury kit again in 2009 – this time with some eye-catching gold detailing – as they bowed out to Northamptonshire Steelbacks in the last eight.
2010
The new decade brought with it a new name as Hampshire became known as the Royals – a change which coincided with a change of fortunes in the shortest format. Having secured qualification from the South Group, a win over Warwickshire gave them their first ever Finals Day appearance, held at their home ground.
The Royals then beat Essex Eagles in the semi-final, before defeating Somerset in a dramatic final as they were crowned T20 champions for the first time.
Prostar made their bow as kit provider for the 2010 campaign with a blue and yellow strip.
2011
Winning a total of eleven games, the Royals finished top of the South Group as they looked for back-to back wins. They got the better of Durham in the quarter-final, but suffered a super-over defeat to Somerset at Edgbaston on Finals Day.
Yellow returned as the primary kit colour for 2011 as Prostar continued to supply the Royals’ playing wear.
2012
2012 was another memorable Hampshire Royals season as they reached a third consecutive Finals Day, held in 2012 at Sophia Gardens. They got revenge on Somerset with a semi-final victory to set up the final with Yorkshire Carnegie.
The Royals beat Yorkshire by 10 runs, to win the competition for the second time in three years.
Prostar were once again suppliers of the now unmistakable yellow and blue kit.
2013
Hampshire Royals – the defending T20 champions – were in stellar form in the group stages of 2013’s competition, topping the South Group before beating Lancashire Lightning in a close quarter-final at The Ageas Bowl.
Unfortunately, the Royals’ defence ended as Surrey got the better of them at Finals Day with a four-wicket victory in the semi-final at Edgbaston.
Funky took over as the T20 kit supplier in 2013, with a new take on Hampshire’s now famous yellow and blue kit.
2014
2014 saw another change of name, with the Royals moniker dropped and the side being simply known as Hampshire in white-ball cricket.
There was no difference in result though, as the team qualified through both the group and quarter-final stages with relative ease but were beaten on Finals Day – this time by Lancashire Lightning.
2014 saw Hampshire’s yellow T20 kit provided by global sports brand Puma, the first of a four-year partnership.
2015
Hampshire suffered an almost identical fate the year after. Having come out on top during a memorable quarter-final tie with Worcestershire Rapids, they were once again defeated at the semi-final stage by Lancashire Lightning.
Hampshire wore a Puma kit again throughout 2015, which adopted the typical yellow and blue colour scheme.
2016
For the first time since 2008, Hampshire failed to make it out of the group stage of the competition – ending a record-breaking run of six consecutive Finals Day appearances.
Puma once again supplied the kit for Hampshire’s 2016 T20 campaign but took a fresh look at the Club’s yellow and blue colour scheme.
2017
2016’s failure to qualify for Finals Day provided just a blip as a year later Hampshire made a return to Edgbaston for Finals Day.
They finished third in the group stage and convincingly beat Derbyshire to advance to the final four.
However, they couldn’t get past Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Edgbaston and exited at the semi-final stage.
Another Puma kit was sported throughout the season, a kit which marked a return to the more classic yellow, with blue detailing on the shoulders.
2018
Hampshire’s 2018 season was a difficult one in T20, with the team winning just two games and failing to qualify for the quarter-final.
Adidas took over as playing kit provider, for the first of a three-year partnership, with a simple yellow and blue design.
2019
2019 brought more struggle for Hampshire, as they recorded back-to-back group stage exits in the competition.
The team wore the traditional yellow, with Adidas’ famous three stripes running up the side in blue.
2020
A shortened version of the competition took place in 2020, however the team again were unsuccessful in making it into the knockout phase.
A slightly different spin was put the traditional yellow and blue design by Adidas.
2021
Last season saw the return of Hampshire Hawks for the first time since 2010. The exciting change also proved to have an effect on the team who made a miraculous turnaround – wining their final five group games to clinch a quarter-final place.
The Hawks then won a thriller at Trent Bridge, beating Notts Outlaws by just two runs, and booking their spot at Finals Day.
Unfortunately, there was no happy ending, as the team lost to Somerset in the semi-final.
The return of the Hawks was accompanied by the introduction of a new kit supplier, with New Balance stepping in to provide the stylish blue and yellow strip.
2022
The second year of the Hawks provides a lot of excitement for Hampshire fans and the new 2022 kit, supplied by New Balance, is set to be released tomorrow morning at 10am.
