2023 Vitality Blast Quarter-Final Permutations

With two games remaining, find out how Hampshire Hawks can confirm qualification from the South Group in this year’s Vitality Blast

Hampshire Hawks have just two Vitality Blast group matches left and their hopes of qualifying for the quarter-final are firmly in their own hands.

Following last Friday’s breathtaking victory over Essex Eagles, the Hawks occupy third place with home matches against Glamorgan and Gloucestershire left to play.

James Vince’s side sit on 14 points from their 12 matches – level with Kent Spitfires and Essex Eagles in fourth and fifth respectively, and two points behind Surrey in second.

Mathematically, Glamorgan and Sussex can also still qualify but it is unlikely due to them being four points behind the pack – meaning at least two of the Hawks, Kent Spitfires and Essex Eagles have to lose both their remaining games, while they win both and significantly improve their net run rate (NRR).

The Hawks are currently above both Kent and Essex due to boasting a better NRR. As a result, the Hawks just have to match or better one of those teams’ results from the final two games in order to qualify - as long as they maintain a higher NRR.

Whether the Hawks finish in third or fourth place will be determined by whether they can match or better both Kent and Essex’s results or just one of those sides. Finishing in either third or fourth will see the Hawks secure an away quarter-final.

Excluding a significant shift in the Net Run Rates of competing teams, James Vince’s side will only fail to qualify if both Kent and Essex pick up more points in the final two games.

Amongst all of this, the Hawks could also still finish in second place which would see them earn a home quarter-final. This would only happen in the below circumstances:
