Hampshire Bowling Duo Selected for England Duty
Lauren Bell and Linsey Smith have been selected in the England Women's squad to face West Indies
Hampshire’s Royal London Cup match against Northamptonshire Steelbacks on Tuesday 9th August will be played at Newclose Cricket Ground on the Isle of Wight.
The trip will be the first since 2019 and only the second since 1963.
Hampshire’s last outing at Newclose in 2019 saw the Club cruise to a comfortable victory over Nottinghamshire in the County Championship, thanks to impressive performances with both the bat and ball.

Day 1:
Joe Weatherley scored his maiden Specsavers County Championship half-century for 11 months as Hampshire edged Nottinghamshire on the first day of first-class cricket on the Isle of Wight since 1963.
Weatherley struck a fluent 66 as Hampshire reached 288 for six, with Steven Mullaney and Jake Ball both taking two wickets each on a pulsating first day.
Aneurin Donald, who reached 35 not out, along with Ian Holland, guided Hampshire to close.
Day 2:
A disciplined bowling performance from the Hampshire attack tested a strong Nottinghamshire bowling attack, despite a century from Steven Mullaney on day two at Newclose.
Hampshire were bowled out for 310 – after being 288 for six overnight - when Fidel Edwards fended to short cover – the visitors claiming four wickets in 26 balls and Luke Fletcher three in 14 deliveries.
Kyle Abbott, Keith Barker and Fidel Edwards each claimed three wickets apiece on another good day for Hampshire as Notts were bowled out for 239 before Hampshire reached 3-1 at close, losing Weatherley leg before.
Day 3:
Ajinkya Rahane – making his Hampshire debut – notched a century before Sam Northeast scored a brilliant three figures of his own as Hampshire dominated Nottinghamshire on the Isle of Wight.
Rahane, having scored 50 in 64 balls, joined a very exclusive club when he flicked expertly off his legs to reach his hundred as Hampshire declared on 367-5, setting Notts an unlikely 438 to win.
Nottinghamshire were given 111 overs to block out, 15 of which in the evening session, but lost both openers before the day was out.
Day 4:
Sam Northeast's side started the day needing eight wickets for victory in a minimum of 96 overs, having dismissed both Nottinghamshire openers in a tricky 15 over spell following their declaration the previous evening.
Hampshire’s strong seam attack of Fidel Edwards, Keith Barker and Kyle Abbott did the brunt of the work with three wickets apiece, and ended with figures of three for 37, three for 42 and three for 46 as Notts were bowled out for 194 with Hampshire sealing a 244 run victory.
2022 promises to be another thrilling summer of cricket and becoming part of the Hampshire Cricket family as a Member is the ultimate way to make the most of it.
