Historic Highlights from 2025

England vs South Africa – Sunday 7 September (Metro Bank ODI)

In a match destined for the record books, England achieved the largest ever men's ODI win by runs - defeating South Africa by a staggering 342 runs at Southampton. Posting a mammoth 414–5, with centuries from Joe Root and Jacob Bethell (Bethell scoring 110 off 82 as the second-youngest English centurion), England then bowled South Africa out for 72.

The scale of this victory shattered the previous record of 317 runs set by India and has been hailed as a future blueprint for ODI dominance.

South Africa Highlights

England vs West Indies – Tuesday 10 June (Vitality IT20)

In a high-scoring thriller, England posted 248 for 3 in a 20-over showcase - thanks to an explosive partnership between Ben Duckett (84 off 46) and Jamie Smith (60 off 26) - to seal a 37-run victory and complete a white-ball sweep of the West Indies series at Utilita Bowl.

The fixture was England's highest-ever IT20 score made in England, and their second highest across the globe, as well as being the highest number of runs scored in an England IT20 across both teams (459 runs), before Harry Brook's side surpassed their records again later in the summer in an IT20 against South Africa at Old Trafford. This cements England's reputation for dynamic, crowd-pleasing cricket.

West Indies Highlights

England Women vs India Women – Wednesday 16 July (Metro Bank ODI)

Despite a tough outing for England, the match offered compelling cricket narratives. England posted 258 for 6, recovering from 97–4 with a determined 106-run stand between Sophia Dunkley (83) and Alice Davidson-Richards (53). India chased the total successfully with 10 balls to spare, powered by Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten 62 and a key partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues. The match offered insights into England’s middle-order resilience and moments of hope under new Head Coach Charlotte Edwards.
