Abbott, Crane & Fuller To Feature In Inaugural SA20

Hampshire trio picked up in auction and will feature in Cricket South Africa’s new franchise Twenty20 cricket league in 2023

The brand new SA20 – the six-team franchise T20 league, organised by Cricket South Africa, and to be played across January and February 2023 – held its player auction on Monday 19th September and the auction saw Hampshire trio Kyle Abbott, Mason Crane and James Fuller snapped up.

Abbott (175,000R) is heading to Durban’s Super Giants while Crane (425,000R) and Fuller (425,000R) were bought by Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Abbott – who’s been central to Hampshire’s LV= County Championship campaign - will link-up with former Hampshire teammate Reece Topley at DSG, while Crane and Fuller – who both shone during Hampshire Hawks’ successful Vitality Blast campaign - are joined at SEC by Aiden Markram, who impressed during his time with Hampshire in 2019.

A host of familiar names will line up in 2023’s SA20 with Lewis Gregory, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Olly Stone, Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Dane Vilas, Eoin Morgan and Phil Salt all getting picked up in Monday’s auction.

Crane and Fuller will link up with Adi Birrell during SA20, with Hampshire’s First XI coach overseeing Sunrisers Eastern Cape during the new league’s inaugural season.
