Hampshire fast-bowler Andy Carter has announced his retirement from professional cricket.
The 28-year-old, who signed for the club earlier this season after joining from Derbyshire, has made the decision to call time on a seven-year first-class career.
Carter began his career at Nottinghamshire, making his debut in 2009 where he impressed for a number of seasons before moving to Derbyshire in 2015.
The paceman has taken 170 wickets across all formats at an average of just 26.67, with six of those coming during his time with Hampshire, including an impressive 4-52 against Nottinghamshire in August.
“I just want to start by saying thank you to Hampshire for the last eight weeks – I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it and the fact I was able to play under a hero of mine, Craig White, made it all the more sweeter!”
“Since 2009 I owe almost all my thanks to Nottinghamshire. They have supported me and given me stability in my cricket and I've played under three great leaders of men Mick Newell, Paul Franks and Chris Read! Thanks also go to the bowling coach for the majority of my time, Andy Pick, who backed me all the way.
“I have some fantastic friends that I've made from the game and nobody bigger than Luke Fletcher who made trucking in all day fun!
“My biggest thanks has to go to my family and girlfriend - they've put me straight when needed, supported me so much and all I wanted was to make them proud!
“It's the right time for me to move to the next chapter and I'm excited about it!”
Hampshire Director of Cricket, Giles White said: “Having joined the club earlier this season, Andy has been excellent during his time with us and he’s been a pleasure to have around. We’d like to thank him for his efforts and wish him well for the future following his retirement.”
