Pre-Season Updates For Hampshire
Keep an eye on our players as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 season
Hampshire pace trio Sonny Baker, Scott Currie, and Eddie Jack have been named in England Lions’ squads to play Pakistan Shaheens in the United Arab Emirates.
The Lions will play three T20s and five 50-over matches from 20 February to 9 March, all of which take place at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Sonny Baker joined Hampshire from Somerset ahead of the 2025 season and made his debut for the club in the Guyana Global Super League in the winter of 2024.
He soon made an impact on home soil, taking a five-for in his second County Championship match against Surrey at the Kia Oval, before repeating the feat against Worcestershire.
His impact in the Vitality Blast where he took 10 wickets in eight matches, along with an impressive nine wickets in seven games in The Hundred, earned Baker full international honours against South Africa at Headingley before an IT20 debut against Ireland later in the year.

Scott Currie was Hampshire Hawks’ leading wicket-taker in the Vitality Blast last summer, with 27 wickets to his name and was the tournament's second-leading wicket-taker.
The Hawks’ reached a record 11th appearance at Finals Day, and Currie was awarded with a first England call-up after Saqib Mahmood was ruled out of the Ireland tour due to injury.
Currie’s naming as a substitute fielder for England against Ireland means he is ineligible to add to his three ODI caps for Scotland until September 2028.

Eddie Jack is the latest exciting young fast bowling talent from the south coast. He has risen through the Hampshire pathway and Academy, and made his professional debut for the club in 2023.
The right-arm pacer has featured in all three formats for Hampshire and made his First-Class debut for England Lions against India A in May 2025, where he dismissed Test batters Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
He was Hampshire’s second-leading wicket taker in the Metro Bank One Day Cup and he earned a place, alongside Sonny Baker, on England Lions’ tour of Australia to shadow The Ashes.

It’s exciting to have such a strong England Lions squad selected. This group brings a real blend of proven performers, exciting talent who have performed over the winter and retains an eye on future best. With limited 50-over cricket on offer, this series combined with tours over the remainder of 2026 will give players the opportunity to develop and deliver as we build towards the 2027 ICC Men's World Cup in South Africa.
Ed Barney, ECB Men’s Performance Director
England Lions Head Coach Andrew Flintoff will lead a coaching staff that will include Troy Cooley’s first tour since returning to the ECB as Men's Elite National Pace Bowling Lead.
The coaching team – which will attend either all or part of the tour – includes Neil McKenzie, Sarah Taylor, Neil Killeen, Moeen Ali, Amar Rashid and Ben Stokes.
The tour will be the first time that England Lions have played an away white-ball series since they travelled to Sri Lanka in February 2022.
The Lions will also host South Africa A and Sri Lanka in white-ball cricket this summer with white-ball tours also planned for next winter.
