Joseph Eckland And Daisy Mullan Released
Keeper-batter Joseph Eckland and all-rounder Daisy Mullan will leave Hampshire Cricket on the expiration of their contracts
Hampshire Cricket, with partners, have announced their Women’s Cricket Super League team name as the Southern Vipers.
This summer will see the The Ageas Bowl based Southern Vipers compete against five other teams (Lancashire Thunder, Loughborough Lightning, Surrey Stars, Western Storm, and Yorkshire Diamonds) for the inaugural season of the Women’s Cricket Super League.
As soon as we were awarded a team, we invited supporters and staff to suggest a team name that was big and bold – something that the players could be proud of. The Southern Vipers was chosen as it fits the bill perfectly and I look forward to seeing the Vipers take to the field for our first match on 31st July.
Bobby Parks, Southern Vipers General Manager
The round-robin Twenty20 competition will be played from Saturday 30th July to Sunday 14th August. The tournament will feature 15 group matches in 16 days and climax with a finals day on Sunday 21st August.
Led by Head Coach Nick Denning, the Vipers welcome the Surrey Stars to the home of Hampshire Cricket for their opening match on Sunday 31st July.
The Vipers will then make the trip to Blackpool to face the Thunder on Friday 5 August before a home game against the Diamonds on Monday 8 August. The penultimate fixture of the group campaign is an away match against the Storm on Friday 12 August before facing the Lightning on Sunday 14 August (All home games are scheduled to start at 2pm).
Today represents another huge step towards delivering our vision of creating a dynamic, inspirational and high quality domestic women’s game in England. The fixture list includes some exciting prospects, and I am sure that the Southern Vipers will be hoping to make the The Ageas Bowl their fortress, with three home matches at the ground this summer.
Clare Connor, ECB Director of England Women’s Cricket
This time last year the Women’s Cricket Super League was simply a concept, and now we have six exciting new teams, some innovative partnerships and a fixture list that includes at least 11 matches being played at seven different First Class grounds across the country.
As each stage of the process unfolds, we keep striving to push new boundaries. We are now looking forward to working with the Southern Vipers and the other five teams over the next few weeks to reveal their kits, colours and brands, as well as the central competition logo and branding.
In January, it was announced that Hampshire Cricket with partners; Berkshire Cricket Ltd, Dorset Cricket Board, Isle of Wight Cricket Board, Oxfordshire Cricket, Southampton Solent University, Sussex Cricket Ltd, Wiltshire Cricket Ltd would be one of the six hosts that will compete in the inaugural Women’s Cricket Super League this summer.
The Southern Vipers’ logo, branding, kit and squad details will all follow in due course. Please keep checking www.ageasbowl.com & Hampshire Cricket’s social media channels for future exciting developments.
