Iain Brunnschweiler was born Southampton in 1979. Brunnschweiler and had that least enviable of roles, a wicketkeeper deputising for an established ‘keeper – or in his case two: ‘Adi’ Aymes and Nic Pothas.
He played in six first-class and four limited-overs matches, although one of the latter was in the days when the county Cricket Boards competed in the C&G Trophy, and the final one was for Hampshire v the Zimbabweans.
In the C&G match he held two catches and top-scored (37) in a defeat v Shropshire. Just three of his six first-class matches were in the Championship, but perhaps most notably he was a member of the Hampshire side that defeated the Australians in 2001, holding five catches, and with 10* was at the wicket when the match was won.
His Hampshire first team career lasted from 2000-2003 after which he moved into fitness and coaching, and worked for some time at his county. He was a goalkeeper, who played a good standard of non-league football, including for AFC Totton in the FA Vase Final at Wembley.
