Captain James Vince ‘Delighted’ To Continue Hampshire Career

Club Captain James Vince has signed a three year contract extension which sees him stay at his home club until at least the end of 2025

Captain James Vince says he is ‘delighted’ to remain at Hampshire having made his debut for the county back in 2009.

He said: “I’ve been at the club since the academy so to get a few more years added on is really exciting.”

Vince made his first class debut against Loughborough MCCU in May 2009, before playing in his first County Championship match in July against Nottinghamshire where he scored his first First-Class 50 in the second innings.

In just his second year at Hampshire, one dream was already ticked off in the form of the T20 Cup in a thrilling final against Somerset that went down to the final ball.

However, Vince ranks the 2012 season where he helped Hampshire win the double of the CB40 and the T20 Cup in the same year, defeating Warwickshire and Yorkshire in the finals respectively.

Vince said: “I think the trophy wins stand out.

“We won the 40-over competition and the T20 in the same year, that was pretty special, and the 2010 T20 win at home in Southampton, loads and loads of good memories.”

Hampshire narrowly missed out on the County Championship last year after losing out to Lancashire by one wicket in a nail-biting final match of the season at Aigburth.

This year, Vince is determined to take the county that one step further and do something that no Hampshire team has done since 1973.

“I think the squad building over the last couple of has put together a really competitive squad,” Vince said.

“We identified the County Championship as a real goal, and we got pretty close last year, so hopefully we can build on that this season and the next few years and try and enjoy a really successful period with the club.”
