With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' successful Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign.
Maia Bouchier was at her fluent best against Lightning in Southern Vipers’ second match of the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
The Ageas Bowl played host under the Wednesday night sky, as Lightning put the home side into bat first with a heavy shower threatening to burst open at any moment.
The Vipers made the addition of a certain Danni Wyatt in place for Ella McCaughan, whilst the visitors had a change of leadership as Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce took over the reigns from England’s Tammy Beaumont, and a change of keeper with Sarah Bryce taking the gloves instead of Ella Claridge.
It was a relatively quick start for the Vipers, but the captain fell in the fourth over with the score on 28.
Out strode Bouchier who took an over to get her eye in before launching the Lightning skipper for a maximum over long on.
She followed it up with cut through the covers off Piepa Cleary, before she took a couple steps down off another Scot, spinner Kirstie Gordon, to drive her over the head of cover for another four.
Her second six was almost a carbon copy of her previous boundary.
She advanced down the wicket and went inside out over long off to the bowling of Lucy Higham, and the Vipers had raced to 89-2 in the twelfth over.
Bouchier fell to the bowling of Gordon, but her job was done, as the Vipers posted 155-5 before the bowling of Lauren Bell and Charlie Dean sealed a 31-run victory.
