Charlotte Edwards Cup Rewind: Charlie Dean’s Twister vs Lightning

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' successful Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign.

Off spinner Charlie Dean took 3-23 as Southern Vipers defeated Lightning at The Ageas Bowl, as they won their second game of the tournament.

Having scored a valuable 20 runs in the first innings, Dean set about strangling Lightning’s chase of 156.

The first trapped Bethan Ellis lbw for five as she was looking to sweep, and Dean didn’t have to wait for the umpire to put her finger up to celebrate.

She then took the wicket of the set batter, Lightning captain Kathryn Bryce.

The Scotland international was Lightning’s last hope at getting over the line, but she holed out to Maia Bouchier at long on for 54 off 51 deliveries, Dean giving her a pat on the back after an excellent knock.

Just three balls later, Lucy Higham walked past Dean’s final ball of her spell, and Carla Rudd whipped the bails off in a flash, and victory was all but secured for the Vipers.
