A trip to Trent Bridge followed the Vipers’ close-fought win against Northern Diamonds, and the game didn’t start the usual way for the black and orange side.
Having lost the toss and been sent in to field first, the home side got off to a flier thanks to Marie Kelly who raced to 36 off just 12 deliveries, taking a liking to the pace of Lauren Bell.
After breakthroughs from first Freya Kemp then Anya Shrubsole, Elwiss joined in the action.
She had Bethan Ellis caught for just seven as she edged a cut to Ella McCaughan at point.
From 52-5 in the fifth, the Vipers fought back to have Lightning 68-5 in the ninth.
With the first ball of her third over, Elwiss picked up her second, as the Lightning captain Kathryn Bryce chipped a catch to her opposite number, Georgia Adams.
Then, with the final ball of her spell, Sophie Munro aimed to clear the boundary rope and send Elwiss into the stands.
Paige Scholfield however, had other ideas.
She stuck out her right hand, tumbled back, and plucked the ball out of thin air, to give Elwiss her third, and the home side slumped to 133-8 after 18 overs.
Danni Wyatt then led the way with the bat with 76 off just 44 balls, as Elwiss hit the final run to win the game by five wickets, in just 100 balls of batting.
