Charlotte Edwards Cup Rewind: McCaughan Brings Lottie Home

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' successful Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign.

At 19 years of age, Ella McCaughan was playing in her third domestic final in three years.

In the final of the Charlotte Edwards Cup against Central Sparks, the batter found herself in the middle order as opposed to her usual spot at the top.

A quickfire 20 (10) from Danni Wyatt, along with 32 from Maia Bouchier, meant that McCaughan could ease into her stride on the way to chasing down 110 set by the Sparks.

She walked out to bat with the score on 51-3 in the seventh over, and soon set about making her mark on the final.

McCaughan cut her four ball away to the backward point boundary off Emily Arlott.

She then reverse swept the number two IT20 bowler in the world, Sarah Glenn, for four through third as the Vipers kept closing in on their target.

Leg spinner Hannah Baker then came into the attack, and McCaughan responded by pulling a half-tracker to the boundary.

Then, with the score on 106, McCaughan clipped a leg stump full toss from Issy Wong to the square leg boundary, and the celebrations began.

The Vipers will play a minimum of 21 matches in 2023, with 14 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy games and seven Charlotte Edwards Cup matches, five of which are double headers, of which two are at The Ageas Bowl.
