Hampshire fast bowler Chris Wood will remain a Hawk until at least the end of 2025.
The left armer, the most prolific in T20 cricket for the club, has played 176 short-form games for the club where he has picked up 191 wickets, the third most of anyone to play in English T20 cricket.
Born in Basingstoke, Wood is a product of Hampshire’s highly successful youth pathway, having represented the county since U13 level.
He made his debut for the Academy in 2006 before making his senior debut for the club in 2009.
It’s been a hell of a ride up to now, one I have loved. I can’t wait to see what the team can achieve next season.
Chris Wood
Hopefully we can get back to challenging for more trophies
He claimed 5-54 on his First Class debut, against Oxford MCCU, and took best Championship figures of 5-39 against Kent in 2014.
Primarily a white ball specialist, Wood helped the club to three trophies in his first four seasons with the Rose and Crown.
He took 20 wickets as Hampshire Royals lifted the Friends Provident T20 on his home ground in 2010, and followed it up with 28 wickets across the CB40 and T20 Cup as the team completed the double in 2012.
Chris continues to perform at a high standard and remains at the heart of our T20 unit.
Giles White, Director of Cricket
He works incredibly hard; has come through the system and has a lot to offer the environment. We are delighted he will a part of the plans in 2025
More silverware would come Wood’s way, when he helped lift the 2018 Royal London Cup at Lord’s before his 21 wickets in the 2022 Vitality Blast – the second most for the club – helped the Hampshire Hawks record third T20 trophy at Edgbaston.
Back to red ball, and Wood contributed to another trophy, as Hampshire won the County Championship Division Two title in 2014, where he claimed 15 wickets at 16.80 with a best of 5-39.
In 2024, Wood was awarded a testimonial year by the club to celebrate his performances and service to Hampshire cricket.
The best way to see Chris in action is with a Hampshire Cricket Membership. Memberships for 2025 are on sale now with more information available via the link below.
