County Championship Rewind: Abbott’s Ten Wickets Inspire Hampshire against Yorkshire at Scarborough

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout the campaign.

Hampshire had Yorkshire 25-4 before Abbott got his first wicket in the first innings, with Matthew Waite edging to Joe Weatherley at third slip.

The South African had his tail up, an extra slip in place. Revis then nicked a length ball into the hands of Ian Holland in that same position.

After a positive partnership between Fraine and Bess for the hosts, Abbott made the breakthrough as Fraine mistimed a pull shot which came off the back of his bat to float to Joe Weatherley at slip.

Abbott then took the final three Yorkshire first innings wickets for the cost of only one run.

Yorkshire went into their second innings trailing by 59 runs. Abbott got his seventh wicket in the match as Ben Brown had Kohler-Cadmore caught behind.

Bess fell victim to Abbott once again, this time LBW for seven.

Abbott and Brown combined again as Thompson tried to flick a ball off his legs but could only edge behind to Hampshire’s wicketkeeper.

The 35-year-old’s sixth ten-wicket haul came in the 107th over as Revis fended at a short of a length delivery which he could only feather behind to Ben Brown.

Abbott finished with match figures of 10/113 in a breathtaking performance.
