County Championship Rewind: Dawson Takes First 10 Wicket Match Haul

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout the campaign.

Liam Dawson registered his first-ever ten-wicket haul in First Class cricket, but Hampshire fell to an agonizing defeat against Essex.

Essex were bowled out for 238 inside the first day, with Dawson picking up the wickets of Tom Westley, Simon Harmer, and Aaron Beard.

However, it was in the second innings that Dawson caused the most damage.

The left-arm spinner bowled one ball shy of 29 overs and ended with his best figures for Hampshire, 7/68.

Dawson had Dan Lawrence lbw to a full ball on the stroke of lunch on day two before Michael Pepper reverse-swept Dawson into the hands of point shortly after the interval.

Nick Browne was Dawson's next victim, helping a delivery into the hands of Ian Holland at leg slip.

Adam Rossington made 60 before being well caught by James Fuller diving forward to give Dawson his fourth scalp of the innings.

The left-arm spinner then completed his five-wicket haul as Shane Snater could only guide a ball from Dawson into the hands of Ian Holland at mid-wicket.

Dawson then wrapped up the innings and his ten-wicket haul in consecutive deliveries, first bowling Simon Harmer for 61 before Cook could only fend his first delivery behind to Ben Brown.
