Match Preview: Hampshire Men v Essex, Rothesay County Championship
Hampshire Men host Essex at Utilita Bowl in the opening round of the 2026 Rothesay County Championship over Easter weekend
Hampshire will look to secure another positive four-day result when they face reigning champions Middlesex in the Specsavers County Championship at Uxbridge starting on Tuesday.
Hampshire Squad:
Hampshire have named a 12-man squad for this fixture, with Brad Wheal again included alongside nine of the final XI that featured in the rain-affected draw against Surrey last week.
Mason Crane has been made available following his return from international duty with England, and he replaces Liam Dawson who is with England's limited-overs squad this week.
Calvin Dickinson is also included in place of George Bailey who is away with the World XI for their three match IT20 series against Pakistan this week - James Vince will captain the side in his absence.
The Opposition:
Middlesex have had a frustrating season following last year’s four-day success, winning just two of their 11 games so far this season, and the hosts head into the game without a win in their last three matches.
However, James Franklin’s side boast a number of high-quality players with international experience, including Sam Robson, Nick Compton, Toby Roland-Jones, Steven Finn and Adam Voges, and they are likely to be tough opponents as Hampshire look to secure as high a position as possible in Division One.
