Currie Prepares For U19 World Cup In South Africa

Hampshire all-rounder Scott Currie is part of England's U19 squad for their World Cup campaign

Hampshire starlet Scott Currie begins his England U19 World Cup campaign in South Africa on Monday.

The 18-year-old all-rounder will be looking to hold a spot down as England take on the West Indies in the first of their Group B fixtures at the Diamond Oval, Kimberley.

Two days later, a tough test against a strong Australia team awaits in their second group game of the tournament.

England then close proceedings against Nigeria on the 25th January where they will have looked to secure a quarter-final spot.

The knockout stages of the competition begin on the 27th January where the tournament’s winners will eventually be crowned on February 9th.

In the first of their fully contested warm-up games since arriving in South Africa, Currie took an impressive 2-30 against Afghanistan, a game they would eventually narrowly lose by 21 runs.

Currie has been hard at work all winter as the U19’s took part in a tri-series in the West Indies, where they faced off with the hosts and Sri Lanka. It was a dream start for the right-armer taking his country’s first wicket of the tour in a warm up fixture against Antigua, the first of his seven.

Other highlights include a 22 not out against the West Indies batting at number ten, an important knock as England won by 29 runs, and 3-18 against Sri Lanka, a game that England would eventually to go on to win by four wickets.

All of Scott’s and England’s games are available to watch from Monday 20th at skysports.com.
