Bright sunshine and warm temperatures greeted families and film fans on Sunday as they arrived for the The Ageas Bowl Outdoor Cinema's screening of the classic Walt Disney animation, The Lion King.
Bringing blankets, picnics and parasols and pop-up tents as protection from the sun, spectators settled down on the picturesque The Ageas Bowl outfield itself to watch the much-loved story of Simba the cheeky lion cub from one of the venue's new giant HD Samsung screens.
Lion King song-sheets with the lyrics for each of Elton John and Tim Rice's memorable songs were also issued to all ticket holders, having been generously printed by The Ageas Bowl sponsors and energy-provider, Utilita.
Concessions selling cinema snacks such as ice-cream, hot dogs, nachos and popcorn were also provided, whilst visitors could head into the Pavilion Bar within the Rod Bransgrove Pavilion for an alcoholic or soft drink.
Complimentary family-friendly activities were also available for ticket purchasers in the build-up to the film and included themed activations such as interactive African drumming, Lion King-themed facepainting and glitter tattoos, as well as a bouncy castle and inflatable slide.
The event was hosted by ex-BBC presentation duo Georgie and Caz, or The Large G&C, who maintained the fun throughout the event and ran competitions amongst the crowd including 'Best Roar' and 'Best Dressed', for which prizes included tickets to the Lion King live at London's Lyceum Theatre, and family tickets to local attractions Paultons Park and Marwell Zoo.
