Finals Day Rewind: Semi-Final Performances Through The Years

Ahead of Vitality Blast Finals Day this weekend we're taking a look back at standout performances from Hampshire's previous T20 semi-finals

Hampshire Hawks face Somerset in a Vitality Blast semi-final at Edbgaston on Saturday (2:30pm start) with the winner progressing to face either Lancashire Lightning or Yorkshire Diamonds in 2022's Vitality Blast Final.

Hampshire have featured in eight T20 semi-finals since the format's inception - in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 & 2021 - and we've picked out a few standout performances from across the years.


James Vince (56) - Hampshire v Notts Outlaws, Semi-Final, 2017

James Vince led from the front in Hampshire's T20 quarter-final against Notts Outlaws at Edgbaston in 2017.

Chasing 170 to win, Vince helped Hampshire to a quick-start but the regular fall of wickets - when Vince went the scoreboard read 120-5 - meant Hampshire struggled to keep pace and ultimately fell 24 runs short of their target.

Simon Katich & Sean Ervine - Hampshire Royals v Somerset, Semi-Final, 2012

Back at Sophia Gardens in 2012, overseas supremos Simon Katich and Sean Ervine put together a match-winning partnership in Hampshire Royals' nervy chase of 126.

Ervine came in with the score on 74-4 with a a further 52 runs still needed and, along with Katich, the two calmly set about the chase.

Katich struck two fours to the aggressor Ervine's five, and the duo strolled two runs to win the game with an over to spare.

Joe Weatherley (71) - Hampshire Hawks v Somerset, Semi-Final, 2021

Hampshire Hawks had made a slow start to their semi-final against Somerset at 2021 Vitality Blast Finals Day, slipping to 8-2, the loss of the second wicket saw Joe Weatherley stride across the Edgbaston outfield.

7 boundaries and 71 runs later Weatherley had helped Hampshire post 150 all-out, which looked unlikely at 80-5.

Dimi Mascarenhas (2-11 off 4 overs) - Somerset, Semi-Final, 2012

Yes, you read that right - 2 for 11, off four overs.

Dimi was at his economical best in Hampshire Royals' semi-final clash with Somerset at 2012's Finals Day at Sophia Gardens.

Chris Wood's exhibition of death bowling secured Hampshire their second T20 title at Sophia Gardens back in 2012.
