Georgia Elwiss To Move On At The End Of 2024

Southern Vipers all-rounder Georgia Elwiss will depart the club at the end of the 2024 season

Southern Vipers and former England all-rounder Georgia Elwiss will move on from the club at the end of the 2024 season, and join Nottinghamshire.

World Cup winner Elwiss joined the Vipers in 2021, and quickly established herself with a century in her first summer with the team, as she scored 112* against Sunrisers at Chelmsford, and followed it up with 84* against Northern Diamonds the same week.

In just her fourth match – and her first in the Charlotte Edwards Cup – she claimed her best figures for the club as she picked up 3-16 against Central Sparks at Edgbaston.

In Elwiss’ four year stint with the Vipers, she helped the team lift four pieces of silverware – two Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophies and two Charlotte Edwards Cups, which included a crucial 50 in the final of the 2023 50-over competition at Northampton.

In 2023, Elwiss’ 645 runs and 12 wickets in 14 matches helped the Vipers complete a historic double, as they became the first regional side to hold both the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and Charlotte Edwards Cup simultaneously.

It has been the biggest honour to represent the Southern Vipers over the past four seasons. I have made some of the best memories of my career here, winning five domestic titles and, most memorably, doing the double last season.

I owe so much of my success to Charlotte Edwards and to have been able to play under her and learn from her for so long ignited a spark in me that I will be forever thankful for. I also owe a huge thank you to my teammates who have welcomed me in and become a second family to me.

And finally, to all the fans of Hampshire and Southern Vipers – thank you for all your unwavering support. I’ve been incredibly lucky to call the Vipers home and will always cherish the memories I have made here. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

Georgia Elwiss

With 12 scores of 50 or more, Elwiss is the only Vipers player to have recorded more than one century, with her best of 115 coming against South East Stars at Hove in 2022, with an unbeaten 101 as the Vipers secured a nail-biting victory against The Blaze at Chesterfield in July 2024.

She will end her Vipers career as just one of four players to score over 1,500 runs for the club, and has taken 45 wickets at an average of 26.18 in 69 matches.

I am genuinely sorry to see Georgia move on from our organisation. I would have loved to have changed her mind. The club and I fully respect her reasons for going and we are truly grateful for the exemplary service she’s given to the region since debuting in 2021. Georgia has been a hugely positive cultural leader off the pitch and a talismanic match winning all-rounder on. We wish her well for the future.

Adam Carty, Regional Director of Women's Cricket

Elwiss made her England debut against South Africa in 2011, and went on to become capped 54 times for her country, with a final appearance coming in 2021 in a Test match against India at Bristol.

She recorded two ODI fifties with her best of 77 coming against Pakistan at Taunton, with a career-best 3-17 from ten overs with the ball in 2012 against India at Wormsley.

Elwiss was also part of four England World Cup squads, including the successful team of 2017 as they lifted the trophy on home soil at Lord’s.

Everyone at Southern Vipers and Utilita Bowl thanks Georgia for her contributions to the club, and wish her the very best for the future.
