Hampshire Announce Sonny Baker Signing

21-year-old fast bowler will join the Club from Somerset at the end of the season

Hampshire Cricket has announced the signing of fast bowler Sonny Baker from Somerset.

The 21-year-old, who has represented England at Under-19 level on five occasions, will join the Club at the end of the current season.

I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Hampshire and I can’t wait to get stuck in after my injury.

I’m looking forward to learning from the likes of Kyle Abbott, Muhammad Abbas and Keith Barker with the wide range of high class experience they have.

Having worked with Jamie Cook and Pop Welch at Southern Brave, I’m also excited to work with them and the rest of the staff in an exceptional environment which I’m sure will have a huge impact on my career.

Baker made his debut in the 2021 Royal London Cup against Derbyshire and took three wickets. Since he has played in 11 List A games, taking 19 wickets with a best of 6-46.

He played three times for Utilita Bowl based Southern Brave in The Hundred during the 2022 competition and made one appearance for Somerset in their 2024 Vitality Blast campaign. Baker was also selected to represent Manchester Originals for The Hundred this year, however an injury has ruled him out of the competition.

Sonny is an exciting talent with the ability to bowl with genuine pace.

He will add depth to our bowling group and joins a crop of young players at the Club that have the potential to take our teams to the next level.
