Hampshire Cricket have joined this week’s ‘Random Acts Of Kindness’ celebrations by demonstrating their own acts of generosity on Friday.
The national day, observed annually on 17th February, is celebrated with individuals or groups encouraged to enjoy carrying out acts of kindness and as part of this year’s merriments, the club made a surprise visit to Springhill Primary School.
An appearance was also made by Hampshire First XI player, Chris Wood, during the day with the all-rounder helping to lead a presentation made to the school’s Sports Coordinator, Mike Cowap.
Cowap, who is heavily involved in running the sports programme at Springhill alongside his role as teaching assistant, received a Hampshire shirt signed by club captain James Vince.
In conjunction with the shirt presentation, it was also announced that the school had been selected to attend England’s IT20 fixture against South Africa at the The Ageas Bowl this summer, with a handful of pupils set to form the guard of honour as players make their way onto the outfield ahead of the start of play.
Being able to do something spontaneous of this nature to help spread a little joy is excellent and it’s heart-warming to see that these gestures have been received so well here at Springhill
Emily Munro, School Engagement Manager
In addition to Friday’s school visit, a handful of volunteers from local districts within Hampshire were also selected to receive a gift as further acts of kindness organised by the club.
Irene Fergie (Basingstoke and North Hants), Diane Green (South East Hants), Colin Smith (Winchester) and Clare Taylor (New Forest) were all presented with a pair of tickets to a 2017 International fixture at the The Ageas Bowl.
