Hampshire Cricket Foundation are delighted to announce that the Club’s fundraising for Southampton Hospitals Charity – to support the construction of a new specialist rehabilitation space at University Hospital Southampton – has passed £100,000.

The funds raised will help enhance the care, experience and outcomes for thousands of patients at University Hospital Southampton and are the result of a partnership between Hampshire Cricket and Southampton Hospitals Charity.

The partnership – which started during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 – is now in its third year and today saw Joe Weatherley and Aneurin Donald present Dr Max Jonas, a GICU consultant at University Hospital Southampton, with a cheque for £52,445 at The Ageas Bowl, an amount which will contribute directly to the construction of the new rehabilitation space.

We are a community business and giving back to our local community is extremely important to us, so it is very pleasing to see our fundraising for the new GICU unit at University Hospital Southampton pass the £100,000 mark. This unit will have a huge impact on the hospital’s life-saving work and we’re very proud to have been able to contribute towards the cost of constructing it.

We established our partnership with Southampton Hospitals Charity in 2020, when the NHS were under such unthinkable pressure, and we’re looking forward to continuing our fundraising efforts at our upcoming Vitality Blast matches and throughout the year.

The money raised and presented today is in addition to £50,587 raised by the Club’s Foundation for Southampton Hospitals Charity in 2020, with a range of fundraising to continue throughout the 2022 cricketing summer.

We’re still playing catch-up following the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic which had a significant impact on how we’re able to deliver rehabilitative care. Hampshire Cricket’s fundraising – and the rehabilitation space it’s supporting – will make a massive difference to the quality of treatment and care we’re able to offer. Our partnership with the Club is one we’re very proud of and thankful for.
