Hampshire Duo Claim BBL Title With Sydney Sixers

Hampshire's James Vince and Nathan Lyon helped Sydney Sixers claim the BBL title on Saturday as the side secured their second T20 title.

The Melbourne Stars, led by former Hampshire batsman Glenn Maxwell, were the Sixers' opponents in the competition finale but fell 19 runs short in pursuit of their first trophy, finishing runners-up for the second successive campaign.

Wet weather led to the Final becoming just 12 overs per side, and despite Vince not making a significant impact with the bat, the Sixers posted 116-5 from their allocation. 

Nathan Lyon then went to work with the ball, picking up two key wickets after opening the bowling - including the tournament's leading run-scorer Marcus Stoinis - as the Stars reached 97-6 in reply.

Hampshire skipper Vince has had a busy winter down under, consistently contributing with the bat for Moises Henriques side.

The right-hander finished this year's campaign as the side's second highest run-scorer after totalling 323 runs in his 15 innings.

Ealier this winter, Vince’s Msanzi Super League side, Paarl Rocks, were crowned champions of the South African tournament for the first time in their history.
