Hampshire Cricket Board's D40 side booked their place in the ECB Disability Premier League Final with a commanding 153-run victory over Essex on Sunday 29th June at Utilita Bowl's Nursery Ground.
On a scorching hot day, Hampshire skipper Ben Williams won the toss and elected to bat first. The team wasted no time in setting the tone, with explosive contributions right from the top order. Kevin Cooper led the charge with a superb 79 off 67 balls, well supported by Williams himself (33 off 19) and James Boorah (35 off just 16 deliveries).
The highlight of the innings, however, was a sensational unbeaten century from Sam Godfrey. Smashing 101 not out off just 44 balls, Godfrey’s innings was capped in style with a towering six over the groundsman’s tunnel off the final delivery, propelling Hampshire to a formidable total of 334-5 from their 40 overs.
In reply, Essex struggled to gain momentum against a relentless Hampshire bowling attack. Regular wickets fell throughout the innings, with Alex McAdam leading the way with an excellent spell of 5-28. Essex opener J. Moss provided some resistance with a well-made 90 off 85 balls, but he was the final wicket to fall as Hampshire wrapped up victory with authority.
The win sees Hampshire secure their place in the D40 Final, continuing a brilliant run of form this season.
A big thank you to all the spectators who supported the team throughout the day, especially those who visited during the County Championship clash between Hampshire and Worcestershire.
