Hampshire Hawks Secure D'Arcy Short Signing For 2021 Vitality Blast

The hard-hitting Australian batsman has signed a deal for this year’s Vitality Blast campaign

Hampshire Hawks are delighted to announce the signing of Australian batsman, D’Arcy Short.

The destructive opener has signed a deal for this year’s Vitality Blast, putting pen-to-paper on a T20 contract for the duration of the Hawks’ 2021 campaign.

A hard-hitting left-hander and effective left-arm wrist spinner, Short is one of the world’s best white-ball cricketers, having made 31 international appearances for Australia whilst also possessing extensive experience in many of the world’s best T20 competitions.

The 30-year-old has an exceptional T20 record, with 3,991 runs at an average of 35.31 to his name in 123 innings and 48 wickets at 30 apiece across both international and domestic fixtures.

Short has been integral to Hobart Hurricanes success in his home nation’s Big Bash League and he’s also impressed during stints for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League and St Lucia Stars in the Caribbean Premier League.

The Western Australian also has experience of playing in the Vitality Blast having enjoyed a hugely successful spell previously at Durham in 2019, a period during which he struck 483 runs at an average of 43.90 from just 12 innings, the fourth highest run-tally of any batsman that campaign.

We are delighted to secure the signing of D’Arcy for this summer’s Vitality Blast competition. He is a high-class performer who has consistently shown his ability to score a high volume of runs at the top of the order, both for Australia and in a number of the world’s best T20 competitions.

Alongside his skill with the bat, he also gives us another spin bowling option with the ball so we’re excited about what he brings to the side and are looking forward to having him with us.

Giles White, Director Of Cricket

I am so excited to join a Club with as much history as Hampshire Hawks! I can’t wait to get to The Ageas Bowl and hopefully we can have a strong season and win our first title since 2012.

D'Arcy Short

Last week saw Hampshire announce the return of the Hawks for T20 cricket, starting from this summer’s Vitality Blast.

The Hawks’ reintroduction comes hot-on-the-heels of the announcement confirming fans can return to sports arenas from Monday 17th May and follows record-breaking demand for tickets and passports for this summer's Vitality Blast fixtures at The Ageas Bowl.

Tickets for Hampshire Hawks’ T20 double-header on Friday 16th July – which will see James Vince’s side face Essex Eagles and local rivals Sussex Sharks in ‘el clasicoast’ on the same day – have been in particularly high demand, with the double-header the fastest-selling T20 fixture on record at The Ageas Bowl.

Vitality Blast Passports, allowing access to all seven of Hampshire Hawks’ action-packed T20 matches at The Ageas Bowl this summer for just £119, have also been hugely popular, with already more Passports sold for 2021 than in any previous season.

Buoyed by Hampshire’s ‘Ticket Refund Promise’ groups of friends, families and colleagues have been booking a date for their summer socials at The Ageas Bowl. All seven Hampshire Hawks home matches will take place after Monday 21st June as part of a bumper schedule of T20 action, with crowds returning to The Ageas Bowl as Hampshire aim to reach a ninth Vitality Blast Finals Day.
