Hampshire Cricket can confirm that the club’s pre-season tour to La Manga has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
The bowlers and coaching staff currently at the resort will return to the UK today, whilst the remaining squad members who were due to travel later this week will no longer do so.
The health and wellbeing of our players and staff is our primary concern and after monitoring the situation related to COVID-19 closely, we have taken the decision to return from La Manga as a precautionary measure.
Giles White, Director Of Cricket
Following significant uncertainty around travel overseas and the further disruption this could cause, we will now continue our pre-season preparations at the The Ageas Bowl, giving us the best opportunity to be prepared for the coming season.
Hampshire have scheduled three pre-season friendlies ahead of the 2020 campaign, with two-day fixtures against Sussex (Hove), Lancashire (The Ageas Bowl) and Kent (Canterbury) confirmed ahead of the opening County Championship fixture against Kent beginning on Sunday 19th April.
