David Gower: Elegance at the Crease
The Ashes series that secured his spot in history
Hampshire’s U17 side face Northamptonshire in the ECB 50-Over National final tomorrow and head into Sunday’s fixture in a rich vein of form.
The young side progressed through their group unbeaten, with three wins from as many completed matches.
A ten wicket win against Somerset was followed by a comprehensive victory against the then-unbeaten Worcestershire – an impressive all-round performance seeing Hants chase down Worcestershire’s total in just 16 overs.
Gloucestershire were next but rain meant a result wasn’t possible, any frustration from the inclement weather was quickly put to one side with a 186-run victory against Devon to see Hampshire through top of their group.
Middlesex were the opposition in the semi-final but another impressive win – this time by eight wickets – saw Hampshire progress to the National final in style.
Big runs from Tom Prest, Tom South, Fletcha Middleton and George Metzger – who’s been selected to play two matches for an England U19 Invitational XI – have been complemented by the wicket-taking bowling of James Trodd, Monam Abbas, Kamran Khanna and George Pardoe.
Hampshire will be hoping for more of the same in Sunday’s final.
