Match Preview: Hampshire Women v Lancashire, Metro Bank One Day Cup
Hampshire Women take on Lancashire at Arundel Castle in the final group match of the One Day Cup
Toby Albert has been voted Player of the Month for August by Hampshire fans, as part of a new vote for this season presented in partnership with Domino’s.
The young batter picked up 33.4% of the vote, narrowly beating second-placed Tom Prest by just two votes.
Albert played in all nine of Hampshire’s fixtures in August as they progressed to the semi-final of the Royal London Cup.
He scored vital runs for the side as he fluctuated between fifth and eighth in the middle of the batting order.
In the first three matches, he helped Hampshire to a perfect start with scores of 19, 35 and 15 against Worcestershire Rapids, Kent Spitfires and Northamptonshire Steelbacks.
However, it was in the next two games that his abilities really came to the fore.
After the top of the order had failed to put many runs on the board against Derbyshire, Albert took charge making an unbeaten 84 to guide Hampshire to a two-wicket victory in the second to last over.
He performed similar heroics in the following match, finishing not out on 65 to again push his side over the line – beating Lancashire by two wickets.
Albert finished off the group stages with 19 runs in Hampshire’s first defeat against Glamorgan, before scores of 34 and 23 in wins against Essex Eagles and Yorkshire Vikings, as they topped the group and earned a home semi-final.
Kent Spitfires would be the opponents and the 20-year-old was once again impressive with the bat, recording a score of 45, but it wasn’t enough as Hampshire were beaten and knocked out of the competition.
