Hampshire Cricket are set to host one of their most prominent formal events ever later this month, the Hampshire Captains’ Dinner, commemorating the long and prosperous heritage of Hampshire Cricket’s history and leadership.
The three-course dinner event, to be hosted in the Ageas Ballroom within the Hilton Southampton – The Ageas Bowl, offers a once in a generation opportunity to see all of Hampshire’s living club captains who are attending as special guests on the evening of Tuesday 28th August.
Captains attending on the evening include: Richard Gilliat (Captain 1971 - 1978), Bob Stephenson (Captain 1979), Nick Pocock (Captain 1980 - 1984), Mark Nicholas (Captain 1985 - 1995), John Stephenson (Captain 1996 - 1997), Robin Smith (Captain 1998 - 2002), John Crawley (Captain 2003), Shane Warne (Captain 2004 - 2007), Dimitri Mascarenhas (Captain 2008 - 2010), Dominic Cork (Captain 2011), Jimmy Adams (Captain 2012 - 2015) and current captain James Vince (Captain 2015 - present day).
Current club captain James Vince, and former captains Dimi Mascarenhas & Jimmy Adams, discuss just what it means to be the club captain of Hampshire, and look ahead to this month's event.
As well as the three captains in the video stating their enthusiasm towards the event, Hampshire legend, Robin Smith, also discussed his thoughts on what being captain meant to him and his excitement upon returning to the UK for the first time since his departure in 2007, which can be viewed in the video below.
Other Hampshire heroes attending on the night include those who offered significant vice-captain roles such as: Trevor Jesty, Shaun Udal, Will Kendall, Nic Pothas and David Gower. And to further the VIP list, England’s greatest ever all-rounder, Sir Ian Botham, will be in attendance.
The Captains’ Dinner will see a reception hosted for Premium guests from 6pm, where they can enjoy a meet and greet with the captains, before the main event reception opens at 7pm with prosecco and canapés available upon arrival. Throughout the three-course meal, Master of Ceremonies, Kevan James (ex-Hampshire all-rounder and BBC presenter), will conduct a welcome speech, followed by two in-depth question & answer sessions with the twelve captains. The evening will then conclude with an awards ceremony.
All proceeds from the event will go to the The Ageas Bowl’s very own charity, Hampshire Cricket in the Community, ensuring that sports – cricket in particular – is taken into our local communities and that young people are engaging in a healthy, active lifestyle.
Tickets for the Captains’ Dinner have seen unprecedented demand and spaces are now very limited. A small number of top-tier Premium packages are available from £1,500 per table, whilst Standard seats are at £85 each, £800 for a table of ten, or £75 for Hampshire Cricket Members.
