Match Preview: Worcestershire v Hampshire Men, Rothesay County Championship
Hampshire Men take on Worcestershire in the final round of the Kookaburra ball fixtures at Visit Worcestershire New Road
Fidel Edwards – the taker of 224 wickets across 78 matches for Hampshire – is returning to the county this week for a testimonial match to celebrate his time with the Club.
The fast-bowler, who tormented many a batter during his four-year spell with Hampshire, will feature in a 20-over match at Hartley Wintney CC – alongside a Hampshire XI – on Friday 15th July as Hampshire celebrate the former West Indies international’s career.
Edwards last appeared for Hampshire in 2019 – his time with the Club curtailed by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic – and averaged a miserly 25.79 in First Class cricket for Hampshire. The owner of over 250 wickets for the West Indies, Fidel made a sensational return to international cricket at the age of 39 in 2021.
I can’t speak highly enough of Fidel and the impact he had during his time with us. It’s hard to overstate the contribution he made to the Club – he’s been an unbelievable player throughout his whole career and his time with us was no different.
Giles White, Director of Cricket
Circumstances conspired against us celebrating Fidel and his Hampshire career sooner, but we’re looking forward to welcoming him back to the Club and paying appropriate tribute to one of our most popular players.
As well as Friday’s match, Hampshire Cricket will also be making a presentation to Fidel at lunch on Day Three of the Club’s LV= Insurance County Championship match against Warwickshire at The Ageas Bowl on Wednesday 13th July.
Friday’s testimonial match gets underway at 3pm on Friday at Hartley Wintney with spectators able to enjoy the action for free – with a Super 1s Disability fixture (1:30pm start) taking place ahead of Fidel’s celebratory match.
Spectators will also be able to park for free on the Oak Common, with Hartley Wintney Cricket Club located at the Cricket Green, Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, RG27 8PG.
