Healthy Competition In Disability Schools Cricket

Cricket is the winner as 1000s of runs scored

Hampshire Cricket Board's Special Schools programme culminated in 3 end of season tournaments across the county.

In the weeks leading up to the tournament, our coaches worked with pupils in many of the competing schools as part of Hampshire's Chance to Shine programme.

Happy, smiling faces over the three days said it all. I would like to thank the teachers, support staff, parents and of course the players who made the week a resounding success. Thanks too to our coaches and staff for their hard work, good humour and flexibity which ensured that everything ran seamlessly. I'm already looking forward to next year!

Rick Kellaway, Disability Schools Officer, Hampshire Cricket Board

North Walls (Winchester) saw over 7000 runs scored despite four rain breaks.  Unbeaten Oak Lodge (Dibden Purlieu) claimed top spot, the only unbeaten team out of 10 secondary schools which included Guernsey's Le Murier School.  Dove House (Basingstoke) finished a close second.

The cradle of cricket, Broadhalfpenny Down (Hambledon), hosted the primary schools event, where 2015 champions Norman Court (Andover) finished undefeated.  Riverside School (Waterlooville) came  second in the 5 team tournament which was again supported financially by Hampshire Cricket Members (Portsmouth and South East Area).

This is our 4th year supporting this event. We love to see the children smiling and playing to the best of their ability.

Brian Scrimshaw, Chair, Hampshire Cricket Members (Portsmouth & South East Area Association)

In eleven matches at Eastleigh's Fleming Park indoor tennis centre, 7 schools scored 5941 runs in the Severe Learning Difficulties tournament.  All were winners in a keenly contested day of cricket.
