2021: A Year In Review

As 2021 draws to a close, watch some of the highlights from an exciting year at The Ageas Bowl

As we near the end of 2021, we've taken a look at some of The Ageas Bowl's highlights from the past year.

The summer kicked-off with a rebrand as Hampshire Cricket returned to the Hampshire Hawks for their future T20 campaigns. 2021 saw the Hawks progress to Vitality Blast Finals Day in astonishing fashion after winning their final five group stage fixtures and mounting a scarcely believable fightback against Notts Outlaws in the quarter-final.

The inaugural ICC World Test Championship Final took place at The Ageas Bowl between the top-two Test match teams in the world, India and New Zealand – with the Kiwis clinching the title in a thrilling and historic fixture.

International cricket continued after the ICC WTC Final, as Eoin Morgan’s England faced Sri Lanka in the final Vitality IT20 of a three-match series, with England winning the match and sealing the series.

2021 also saw the introduction of The Hundred, a brand-new domestic tournament in the UK. Southern Brave men’s and women’s sides both competed in four successful double matchdays at The Ageas Bowl, before the women’s side finished Runners-Up, whilst the men’s side went on the win the inaugural trophy.

During The Hundred, Hampshire’s future stars took centre stage in the Royal London Cup, impressing as Hampshire came close to qualifying for the knock-out stages.

The first-class season wrapped-up in some style too, as Hampshire came agonisingly close to securing their first County Championship title since 1973 in a final day which kept all viewers and followers right on the edge of their seats.

Meanwhile, Hampshire’s Second XI had successfully defended their Second XI Championship title for the second year running, after winning it in 2019.

The Ageas Bowl’s Southern Vipers also successfully defended their title, the 50-over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, whilst also progressing to the Charlotte Edwards Cup Finals Day - hosted at The Ageas Bowl.

The stars from London's West End once again visited the world-class venue to bring a spectacular one-night outdoor concert of Tina Turner's amazing music, An Evening of Tina.

And to round-off the year, the venue’s annual fireworks display returned for the first time since 2019.

2022 is shaping up to be yet another exciting year at The Ageas Bowl. Keep your eyes peeled for the domestic cricket fixture list coming out early in 2022, whilst more events will be released as we enter into the New Year.
