“I Feel Like A 25-Year-Old Again” – Mark Stoneman

New Hampshire men’s signing Mark Stoneman is looking to get stuck in with the Rose and Crown after he signed a one-year deal with the club for 2025

Hampshire men’s batter Mark Stoneman is looking forward to his season with the club as he spoke to BBC Radio Solent’s Kevan James during Hampshire’s friendly against Middlesex.

Stoneman said: “Since signing, I feel like a 25-year-old again. I’ve just got a real surge of energy and can’t wait to get going.”

The 37-year-old featured in 11 Test Matches for England from 2017-18 where he scored five half-centuries and has been playing professional cricket since 2007.

He represented his native Durham for ten seasons from 2007-16 before moving to Surrey for the 2017 season and won the County Championship with brown caps in 2018.

Stoneman later joined Middlesex for three summers before making the move to the south coast.

“I’m over the moon to be here, there’s a great bunch of players and staff so I’m just loving being in and around the group,” said Stoneman, “and hopefully I can get out on the pitch and score some runs.”

Stoneman recorded his first fifty for the club on Day Two of the friendly against Middlesex where he made a gritty 51 on what was effectively a day four pitch.

He is set to open the batting in this year’s Rothesay County Championship, where he has ‘plied his trade for the last 20 years.’

Stoneman said: “I love the game, I’m absolutely mad for it.

“Touch wood, my body and brain are still very much willing and I’m hoping that when the time comes to finish, the tank is empty but that still feels a while off yet.

“I’m going into the season as fit and as motivated as ever, the last couple of years has fluctuated a little more than I would have wanted to but certainly when I’ve had my days I’ve performed to a high level.”
