Injury Update: Mason Crane & Brad Wheal

An injury update on Hampshire youngsters Mason Crane and Brad Wheal

Mason Crane

Mason Crane has suffered a stress fracture to his lower-back, a recurrence of an injury sustained over the winter.

After experiencing symptoms prior to the Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final, Mason was immediately rested and a full investigation was carried out. Initial results of this investigation were negligible, however a third scan revealed activity around his previous stress fracture injury which was the likely cause of this back pain.

Following the findings of this final scan, the coaching staff, medical staff and Mason discussed the potential of performing a pain-relieving injection to allow the opportunity for him to participate in last Saturday's 50-over final, and an agreement was made to carry out this treatment.

It was also determined that following the injection, Mason would take part in two fixtures for Hampshire Second XI before undergoing a fitness test to accurately assess his availability. After participating in both matches last week without issue, as well as passing a pre-match fitness test, it was agreed that he would be fit for selection for Saturday's final, before then being shut down for the remainder of this season to focus on resting and undergoing appropriate rehabilitation.

Mason will now be unavailable for the rest of the 2018 season.

Brad Wheal

Brad Wheal has suffered a Level L5 left-sided incomplete stress fracture.

After suffering an onset of lower back pain during the early stages of the Royal London One-Day Cup, several scans were then taken which revealed the injury.

Consequently, the medical staff have shut down Brad for the remainder of the 2018 season, and he will commence rehabilitation at the end of the campaign.
