Joseph Eckland And Daisy Mullan Released
Keeper-batter Joseph Eckland and all-rounder Daisy Mullan will leave Hampshire Cricket on the expiration of their contracts
A new innovative education programme aimed at highlighting the importance of reading at a young age has been introduced by Hampshire Cricket in the Community.
With a special visit from Hampshire Cricket mascot Roary, the Club’s official charity launched 'Read to Succeed' at Freegrounds Junior School in Hedge End to align with World Book Day on Thursday 5th March.
All students from years 3 and 4 are taking part in the project, which has been piloted for the past two years and encourages them to read a set amount of time every day for a month.
Videos from Hampshire cricketers talking about the importance of reading during weekly workshops will also be used to help students with comprehension, spelling and other literacy based topics.
Sainsbury’s in Hedge End have generously sponsored Freegrounds Junior School to take part.
Sainsbury’s Hedge End are very pleased to be able to support the Read to Succeed challenge for Freegrounds Junior School. With it being World Book Day, it seemed fitting to launch the project this week. I look forward to handing out certificates to the children at the end of the project.
Lesley Powell, Store PR Ambassador
Reading is a really important life skill that every child should learn from a young age. Read to Succeed uses the power of sport to encourage primary school children to pick up a book and read every day. Using Rory our mascot to get the children excited in the launch assembly really works and the children can’t wait to get started.
