James Vince & Liam Dawson Finish Stints In Pakistan
Hampshire's Captain James Vince and all-rounder Liam Dawson played in the Pakistan Super League with Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United
Hampshire’s experienced duo of Captain James Vince and all-rounder Liam Dawson competed in the 2022 Pakistan Super League (PSL) tournament.
Both players flew straight from England’s T20 series in the Caribbean to Pakistan to play for Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United respectively.
Hawks’ Captain Vince fought hard but unfortunately came up short in Super League performances.
Crushing 11 fours and two sixes through 6 fixtures in the past month, he earned a total of 107 runs at an average of 21.40, including a best of 49* as the Gladiators beat the eventual winners, Lahore Qalanders, by seven wickets.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for Quetta this year as they succumbed to second from bottom, missing out on qualifying for the eliminator on net run rate to Dawson’s Islamabad United.
The Hawks’ all-rounder had better luck in the Super League’s seventh season, helping Islamabad United reach the second of back-to-back eliminators after contributions with both bat and ball in hand.
His skills contributed to scoring 107 runs and taking nine wickets in five matches.
Dawson phenomenally dominated the table-topping Multan Sultans, smacking in 22 runs in just 11 balls with five fours at Lahore in a low scoring game.
Hampshire’s premier all-rounder was also useful with the ball, as he took three wickets for just 16 runs in his four overs as he dismissed opener Shan Masood (4), and middle-order batters Aamer Azmat (4) and Khushdil Shah (2).
In what were two thrilling eliminator matches, first against Peshawar Zalmi, then Lahore Qalanders, Dawson hit a six then a four in consecutive balls to see Islamabad home in the final over against the Zalmi, before striking early with the ball to remove Fakhar Zaman and Phil Salt in the first three overs against the Qalanders.
United’s magical run ended by losing a nail-biter to the eventual winners, Lahore Qalanders, by six runs in the final over of the match.
