Joe Weatherley Puts Pen-To-Paper On New Hampshire Contract

The batter has signed a two-year contract extension keeping him at The Ageas Bowl until the end of 2024

Hampshire Cricket are pleased to announce that Joe Weatherley has signed a new deal with the Club, extending his stay for at least another two years.

The 24-year-old batter is a product of Hampshire’s successful player pathway system and will now remain at The Ageas Bowl until at least the end of 2024.

Since making his debut for the Club in 2016, Weatherley has become a vital cog in the Hampshire machine – making 125 appearances across all three formats.

He tasted his first piece of silverware in 2018, contributing 250 runs at the top of the order, as the team lifted the Royal London One-Day Cup at Lord’s.

Weatherley’s role in the side has expanded even more since then and, after a truncated 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he helped the Hawks to Vitality Blast Finals Day in 2021 – where he made an impressive 71 against Somerset in the semi-final at Edgbaston.

This season has seen him scale new heights, with a career best 168 in the LV= Insurance County Championship season opener, once again, against Somerset. His performances also earned him a spot with Southern Brave in The Hundred for 2022.

However, it was his involvement in the 2022 Vitality Blast which has been most eye-catching. Weatherley was an ever present at number four and scored 356 runs, at an average of 27.38, as Hampshire lifted their third T20 trophy in thrilling circumstances at Edgbaston last weekend – their first since 2012.

Joe has become an important member of the squad with the ability to influence matches in all forms of the game.

We’re delighted that he’s committed to the Club and look forward to seeing him continue his development over the next couple of years.

Giles White, Hampshire Director of Cricket

I’m delighted to have signed for another two years; it was a no brainer to continue with the Club that I’ve been with since I was 9.

Hopefully I can continue to perform for the team and we can enjoy more days like we did at Vitality Blast Finals Day and pick up more silverware.
