Utilita Bowl is on a mission to become the world's greenest international cricket stadium. Home to some of England's most successful cricket teams as well as Hilton Southampton - Utilita Bowl, eforea spa, Boundary Lakes Golf Course, Hampshire Wellbeing Centre and BEEFY's Restaurant.

Utilita Bowl is the home of Hampshire Cricket and Southern Brave, whilst also being a host venue for England Cricket internationals.

In 2024, Hampshire Cricket finished second in the Vitality County Championship, reached the knock-out stage of the Metro Bank One Day Cup and hosted seven action-packed Vitality Blast fixtures as Hampshire Hawks.

Southern Vipers went into their final season as the ‘Vipers’, reaching both Charlotte Edwards Cup and Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy semi-finals.

Southern Brave Men finished Runners-Up in The Hundred after hosting four spectacular double header matchdays at Utilita Bowl with the Women’s side in July & August.

Both England Men & Women hosted sold-out IT20 cricket at the venue based just outside Southampton. England Women welcomed New Zealand, before England Men hosted Ashes rivals Australia.

In 2025, England return for three international fixtures, including Men's fixtures against West Indies and South Africa, as well as England Women hosting India.

Karl McDermott Appointed Head Groundsman At Lord's

Karl will replace Mick Hunt who is retiring after 49 years as Head Groundsman at Lord's

Hampshire Cricket can announce that Karl McDermott has been appointed as the new Head Groundsman at Lord's.

Karl will replace Mick Hunt who is retiring from the role after 49 seasons.

Karl began his career as Assistant Groundsman at Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin, before taking on the Head Groundsman role in 1997, with the venue going on to host an ICC World Cup Fixture in 1999.

On the behalf of everyone at Hampshire Cricket, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Karl for his relentless hard work over the last nine years, and wish him all the best for his new role at Lord's, one of which he is richly deserving.

He spent seventeen years at Clontarf, working on numerous international and domestic fixtures while winning the European ICC Groundsman of the Year award in 2007, before moving to Worcestershire as Assistant Groundsman.

He then took up the role of Deputy Head Groundsman here at the The Ageas Bowl in 2009, ahead of the ground’s first Test Match in 2011 between England and Sri Lanka.

Karl became Head Groundsman in 2016 following Nigel Gray's retirement, and recently presided over England's series-sealing Test Match victory against India.
